Conclusion and next steps for the project

Voting is now closed! Thanks to all of you for your astounding participation, which allows us to shape the contours of our next watchmaking project in 2022! In a few numbers:

The complication: the tourbillon has taken flight and won it by a short head, with 6,125 members of the community having voted for this magical and complex complication, out of a total of almost 16,000 votes.

The style: time to get dressed up to the nines, please! The community has spoken: the majority of you want our next project’s box to be synonymous with elegance, delicacy and sophistication. With 5,565 votes from 10,881 participants, the decision is clear and unequivocal.

The case and its diameter: the trend was confirmed over the last few weeks of voting: it is the round case (40mm for men, 36mm for women) that has won the community over with an overwhelming victory, racking up 6,179 votes out of a total of 11,861.

Once again, thank you all for having taken part in this 1st chapter of the story of CODE41’s next watchmaking project… And this is just the beginning! So now what? First of all, we’re going to consider the best way of satisfying your expectations, drink coffee (a lot), relax (a little), brainstorm and then get back to working on the direction this wonderful project is to take! We’ll be back in due course to show you our progress – which will as always be subject to your votes!

While we wait to unveil the next chapter, why not join us aboard the secret project we told you about very recently? Save the date, December 8 2021 at 7pm, for a live video announcement by Claudio D’Amore, founder of CODE41. About what? We won’t tell you any more for now, but rest assured that it’s a somewhat (OK, completely) crazy project on which the CODE41 team is working assiduously and which certainly goes off the beaten track!

10/06/2021: Initial feedback on your participation

Dear community, on August 25, we took a look back on how far we’ve come together since the creation of CODE41 in 2016, from the key figures to the great milestones that have paved the last 5 years with you.

We’ve also brought you in to help shape the broad outlines of our next watchmaking project. First of all, the entire CODE41 team owes you a massive thanks for your participation! Complication, watch style, case type and even the diameter; you rushed to the ballots, and we’re impatient to get working on this great construction site, to say the least. But before all of that, let’s take a look back at the numbers; how are things shaping up?

3 leading complications: the trifecta!

In total, more than 10,000 of you have voted for your dream complication! Among those that you liked the most, the tourbillon is well ahead, with over 3.100 votes. It leads the simple annual calendar and the lunar phase, which are hot on its heels.

These three complications are among the most complex to create in watchmaking, which would be a sizeable challenge to take on. But we here at CODE41 love challenges, as it happens! Right now, all bets are still on; if you haven’t voted yet, click below to get involved!

Tourbillon

Originally invented to counter the effects of gravity on pocket watches, today the tourbillon is coveted above all for its magic and technical complexity, a marvelous reflection of excellent watchmaking expertise.

Simple annual calendar

A watch with a simple annual calendar displays the day of the week, the date and the month, taking into account the number of days in each month. It must be adjusted once a year in March.

Lunar phase

A mechanism that allows the phases of the waxing or waning moon to be displayed.

The style: a watch dressed to the nines, or one that struts its stuff?

With more than 3700 votes, this time the majority of you want us to develop a model with a classic, smart style; an elegant, sophisticated dress watch.

This esthetic choice would mark a turning point for our current models, which have fulfilled your desires to admire the heart of the watch with a skeleton movement. But nothing has been decided yet, and you can still vote to tip the scales in another direction!

The case and its diameter: a curvaceous choice

Very logically, the vast majority of you have voted for a round case, with over 3400 votes, which is traditionally associated with elegant, classic watch models. In terms of diameter, it’s indisputably 40mm for men and 36mm that have won the most support. That being said, we here at CODE41 love to push the boundaries, and you won’t be spared a surprise that breaks the rules of traditional watchmaking!

A new project and… a (sizeable) surprise that goes beyond the norm!

You’ve got it: nothing is a done deal yet, and your vote can still change everything. But hurry up; voting is scheduled to close on October 18 2021; so you only have two weeks or so to make your voice heard and take part in the creation of CODE41’s next model.

In the meantime, we’ll see you on October 28 with a surprise project that we are crazily excited to present to you! It’s a bit of a mad gamble, one that’s very bold and that goes completely beyond the norm… But we can’t tell you any more for now! What are the next steps on this project? I think it is very exciting to incorporate a tourbillion movement in to your concept of bottoms up procing – as we all know a tourbillion usually multiplies the price of a watch by 3-5x. Looking forward to more news on this project!

    I recieved my NB24 yesterday!! WOW………..
I am also happy that the tourbillon is the complication that won.
looking at things the 42mm is a good size, I know the majority voted for 40mm, but for those of us in the code41 community with larger wrists, 40mm may be a touch too small, as the voting/consultation stage is still to get into full swing; I would like to suggest a range of case sizes 40mm (obviously), 42mm and maybe 44mm to cater for a range of wrist sizes.
